Canadian Curling Club Championships coming to Leduc this winter
Canadian curling's grassroots will be celebrated with a special event in Leduc later this year.
The 11th annual Canadian Curling Club Championship will be held at the Leduc Curling Club November 25-30 and will run in conjunction with the Home Hardware Cup which takes place at Sobeys Arena November 27- December 1.
Dawn Gavin, the Director of Leduc's Curling Club tells The One News what an event like this means to their club.
"Of course we're excited it does give us a great opportunity for us to showcase the Leduc Curling Club because it will be held on the club ice at the same time as the Canada Cup where the elite teams will be attending so we are anticipating a great crowd," says Gavin.
Gavin adds "bringing in something as elite as the Canada Cup and now a multi-event again, we're one of the only clubs that has been able to do that across the country and it's always a pleasure to have those opportunities".
In years past Leduc has hosted a number of major curling events including the 2018 Curl for Canada Championships and the inaugural Canadian Mixed Doubles championships in 2013.
Gavin says they have 80 juniors in their program and those numbers have increased each year.
The event will feature 14 men's and 14 women's teams from Curling Canada's Member Associations.
This will be the first time the championships will be held in Alberta. (JSL/THE ONE NEWS)
