Vehicle thefts in Leduc rose last month

June saw a jump in vehicle thefts in the Leduc area

Last month the city saw a surge in the number of thefts from vehicles in a short amount of time.

In fact, there were 17 such incidents reported in less than a week at the end of June including three cases on June 20 which was followed by two incidents days later.

The rise in incidents reported prompted local RCMP to issue a statement saying "The Leduc RCMP are reminding the public to remove high-end valuables from their vehicles or at least from sight.  They are further requested to lock their vehicles and their residences.  Finally to continue to look out for their neighbours and report any suspicious activities to the police".

Over the last 5 years, there's been a rise in the amount of break and enter cases with 199 incidents reported last year, an 8% jump from 2017.

RCMP ask that if you ever have any information on thefts to contact them at 780-980-7267 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.  (JSL/THE ONE NEWS)
