Police are investigating an airplane crash that took 3 lives in Leduc County on July 3rd.

Leduc RCMP and the New Sarepta Fire Department were on the scene of the float plane crash in a field near Range Road 232 and Highway 623.

The small float plane flew out of the South Cooking Lake Airport. Airport operations manager, Tom Steele said the pilot was experienced and had been flying out of South Cooking Lake for around 5 years.

The Pilot was taking off with a private instructor to learn how to use the floats on his plane. The Instructor had thousands of hours of experience and it is believed that something very bad had to have happened as there was too much experience in the plane for something simple to happen.

The Transportation Safety Board said a team of investigators was deployed to the crash site.
