Provincial government says Alberta separation is a bad idea

The province would not consider a referendum

The Alberta NDP is not on board with a campaign that aims for the province to separate from Canada.

The Alberta Fights Back movement captured peoples attention last week with a pair of billboards asking "Should Alberta Ditch Canada?".

Leduc-Beaumont MLA Shaye Anderson tells The One News why they think that would be a bad idea.

"We know that folks around here are frustrated with Ottawa, there's no doubt, our Premier's been clear on that frustration, but when I'm talking to constituents there are very few Albertans that think separating from Canada is a good idea, they understand it's going to be a lose-lose proposition that will never get nation-building projects like Trans Mountain Pipeline completed if we take our ball and go home" says Anderson.

Anderson says they can't always count on Ottawa but he believes Alberta is better in Canada and Canada is better for having Alberta.
