Beaumont Town Councillor Sabrina Powers has resigned from her position due to unpaid bills with the town.
Some shocking news out of the Town of Beaumont late Friday night, as Town Councillor Sabrina Powers has handed in her resignation.
The announcement came via Facebook from Powers, revealing she was made aware of outstanding fees with the Town of Beaumont on November 8th. These fees were both for utility bills, and for unpaid property taxes.
Under the Local Authorities Election Act, all outstanding bills needed to be paid by nomination day which was September 16th.
Despite Powers paying the bills immediately, Council felt it would be best for Powers to resign from her position.
All of this has now resulted in the Town of Beaumont having to go forward with a by-election. No details on the matter have been made available at this time, but the town will have to fill the position within 90 days.
As for Powers, she is eligible to run for the position on Council in the by-election. However, at this time she is unsure whether or not she will re-run.
When it comes to the by-election, more details of when it will transpire will be made available following the next Beaumont Council meeting which is scheduled for Tuesday, November 28th.
Stay tuned for more details on this developing story as they become available.
