People encouraged to wear pink shirts in the fight against bullying

Today is a day for people around the region to practice kindness and stand up to bullying.

That's the idea behind Pink Shirt Day which encourages people all-day today to wear pink.

It's a global event that was started in 2007 by two boys at a high school in Nova Scotia in support of a student who was being bullied for wearing a pink t-shirt.

Since 2008 the initiative has distributed 1.8 million dollars to anti-bullying programs throughout Western Canada.
