Effective today, the provincial government is directing Alberta Health Services to temporarily suspend parking fees for health-care workers and the general public.
Starting today (April 3, 2020), Parking at all Alberta Health Services facilities will be free to health care workers and the general public.
Many health care workers are working from home during the COVID-19 outbreak, and often have to transition from site to site, so the provincial government made parking free to ease the transitions. The initiative also hopes to help reduce the risk of Covid 19 spread from touch screens at payment sites.
Alberta follows BC in announcing this decision. Those parking are still asked to be respectful of allocated spots for staff and emergency vehicles. This temporary measure will mean an estimated loss of parking revenue of $7.6 million a month.
