Leduc Riggers defeat the Wetaskiwan Icemen on Friday

The Leduc Riggers demolished the Wetaskiwin Icemen 8-1 on Friday night.

The game saw the Riggers take the lead three minutes into the first thanks to a goal scored by Carson Hutchinson.

The remainder of the first period saw the Riggers rack up the scoreboard in close succession, seeing Hutchinson score again along with goals scored by Hunter Komishke and a Powerplay goal by Luke Dunlop.

The Riggers led the scoreboard 4-0 going into the second and only continued to rack up points. Luke Dunlop scored again two minutes in, and forward Robert Young scored twice on the powerplay when Icemen defender Kade Garrity hit the penalty box twice for fighting and instigating before being ejected from the game.

The third period opened with Hunter Cuthbert scoring an unassisted goal and didn't fare much better for the Icemen, unable to capitalize on three different powerplay advantages. The Icemen's lone goal was scored 13 minutes in by Chase Jonzon and assisted by Reid Pankiewicz preventing a shut-out loss, tallying the score 8-1 for the Leduc Riggers.

The Riggers would also go on to win defeat the Fort Saskatchewan Hawks on Sunday 5-4.
