Black Gold Drive Project starting next Spring
The city is looking to make life easier for drivers along Black Gold Drive next year.
Leduc is undertaking a two year, $12 million project to reconstruct that area which will see pavement improvements between 50th street and Alton Drive plus the addition of a turning lane.
Leduc's General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning Mike Pieters tells The One News the importance of fixing this road sooner rather than later.
"Basically as roads age the pavement quality decreases and you heard us talk about pavement quality index, this is how we monitor the roads and determine basically how good is not only the pavement but also the sub-base below because once that starts to go then we can start running into potential problems that can lead to long-term shutdowns" says Pieters.
The project is currently in the design phase with construction set to begin in late April or early May of next year.
While $6 million is being budgeted for the project in 2019 and 2020, Pieters says there's an expectation that number may be lower once pricing is in for year two of the project. (JSL/THE ONE NEWS)
