Jason Kenney announces economic relief package while Alberta oil and gas on "life support"

Citizens of Alberta that are out of a source of income and are getting isolated due to the pandemic can now apply for cash relief from the Alberta government. 

Citizens of Alberta that are out of a source of income and are getting isolated due to the pandemic can now apply for cash relief from the Alberta government. 

Jason Kenney stated, starting next week, Albertans who are isolated will be able to apply for $573 cash payments every week if they have no income or other benefits already. These payments to support the isolated is estimated to cost the treasury around $50M. 

Along with this benefit, utility companies have agreed not to cut off water, power, etc for residents for three months and Albertans can defer bills up to 90 days. Corporate income taxes will also be deferred until the end of August, giving business' a $1.5B reprieve. The government is hoping this will keep employees working through this recession. Students in post secondary will be able to take a six-month reprieve from paying student loans at this time as well.
