Devon senior given special volunteer award by the province

An environmental advocate from Devon given the Stars of Alberta volunteer award

A longtime environmental advocate from Devon has been honored for his years of dedication to the community.

Allan Macaulay was awarded the Stars of Alberta volunteer award this month an honor the province gives out every year to extraordinary people in the province whose volunteer efforts contribute to the well-being of their community and those living there.

Macaulay tells The One News the importance of volunteers in a community.

"We wouldn't have the great variety of things that we have here if it wasn't for all the volunteers and the interest that people take, but there's also lots of seniors that are volunteers but there are others that could be volunteers and as seniors we do have a lot to offer, we have a lot of past experience and knowledge" says Macaulay.

Macaulay co-founded the Devon Nature Club along with the Devon Lions Club Environmental Committee and also served on the town's Voyageur Park Improvement Committee.

In October Macaulay was given the Recreation Volunteer Recognition Award for those who contribute to the development of recreation in the province.  (JSL/THE ONE NEWS)
