A longtime community member in Devon is being remembered as a loving husband and father who volunteered countless hours during his lifetime.

Andrew Madsen is perhaps best known as being Mayor of Devon from 1967-69 but he also raised his family in the community and also was actively involved with the legion and the Devon Golf Course having served as President of both organizations.

Madsen was born in Denmark in 1926 but his family immigrated to Alberta in 1929 at the start of the Great Depression.

He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 17 during World War II.

Madsen passed away on January 4th in Calgary at the age of 92.

He leaves behind a wife, two daughters, a step-daughter and a son.  (JSL/THE ONE NEWS)
