New shelter open to help care for missing pets

Peace Officers in Devon are hoping a new initiative will help relieve the stress experienced when losing your pet.

This month they opened the Country Kennels Bed and Biscuit, a shelter located 8 km south of Leduc for missing animals to get cared for before they're brought back to their owners.

Sergeant Thomas Perry is a Peace Officer in Devon and tells The One News this new shelter will make a world of difference.

"In the past if we would catch an animal we would bring them to the Devon vet clinic and then they would house them for as long as they can but they were doing us a professional courtesy, they don't have the capacity to house animals for the length of time that sometimes we need" says Perry.

Perry says good animal care for missing pets is probably the biggest animal services challenge they face.

If you have lost your animal you can call Community Peace Officers at 780-987-3440 and they can pick you up and drive you to the shelter to retrieve your pet.  (JSL/THE ONE NEWS)
