City of Edmonton faces charges under Animal Protection Act

The City of Edmonton and four employees from the Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals have been charged

They have been charged with regulatory offenses under the animal protection act.

As part of a pilot program, 3 feral cats were transported from the animal care centre to a different facility in another city back in May.

The trio died within one day of being transported.

The program was suspended right away, and the SPCA took over the case to conduct further investigation.

Its estimated that 65 thousand feral cats are roaming the streets of Edmonton.

About 800 cats are brought into the care and control centre each year.
