Maskwacis man charged a year after the death of a mother of 5

A lengthy investigation by Maskwacis police and Edmonton's Major Crimes Unit has finally come to an end.

Yesterday Kyle Littlechild, a 27-year-old man from Maskwacis was charged with second-degree murder, a charge he will have to answer to starting today in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court.

At around 1:30 on the morning of July 6, 2018, Delaina Lace Cutarm was hit by a vehicle on Schoolhouse Road which is about 2 kilometres north of highway 611 on the Ermineskin Cree Nation Reserve.

Since that day it's been a lengthy process for local police to crack the case which came to an end a year later with the murder charge being laid.

RCMP say Cutharm and Littlechild were in a domestic relationship at the time of her death.

Cutarm had five children four daughters and one son all younger than 13 years old.

Less than a month before her death Cutarm posted a message on facebook wishing Littlechild a happy Father's Day.

Two weeks prior to her death she shared pictures online of her newborn son.

Littlechild is in custody and will appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court today.  (JSL/THE ONE NEWS)
