A blue-green algae bloom has been identified on Pigeon Lake and a health advisory has been put out.

Blue-green algae is naturally occurring and often becomes visible when weather conditions are calm.

Everyone is to avoid all contact the algae as well as limiting the consumption of fish caught from the lake as they may be storing toxins from the blue-green algae. If any swimmers or pets get in contact with the Algae, they are to wash with tap water as quickly as possible. The toxins from the algae can be fatal to pets.

People are still able to use the lake for recreational use where blue-green algae is not visible.
