Alberta confirms first Covid-19 death

Alberta has announced the first COVID-19 related death in the province.

Alberta has announced the first COVID-19 related death in the province.

The death, announced by Deena Hinshaw in a conference this afternoon, was of a man in his sixties in the Edmonton zone. The man had underlying health issues and passed away late last night.

In addition, Hinshaw announced 27 new cases of the novel coronavirus confirmed in the province, bringing the total to 147. Two patients are in intensive care.

Both Hinshaw and Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said Wednesday that the COVID-19 outbreak is not something that will be resolved in Alberta in a matter of weeks. Kenney said restrictions will likely last into May, and mathematical projections predict the outbreak won’t hit its peak in Alberta for four or five more weeks.
