High levels of fecal bacteria in the Zeiner Campground beach area of Pigeon Lake
Alberta Health Services is warning people to avoid swimming in a nearby lake.
That came earlier today in response to elevated levels of fecal bacteria currently present in the water in the Zeiner Campground beach area of Pigeon Lake. You’re advised to not swim or wade in the beach area.
AHS says current levels could cause gastrointestinal illness from ingestion of the water, as well as the possibility for skin, ear and eye infections with water contact. Water-borne organisms, including fecal bacteria, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
AHS Environmental Public Health officers will continue to monitor the water at the Zeiner Campground beach area. AHS says the advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
