Gil Poitras has big term plans if elected MLA
A former councilor in Beaumont says he's the only one of the 9 candidates running that can truly represent the people of Leduc-Beaumont.
Gil Poitras is running with the Alberta Advantage Party in this riding and says his parties recall mandate means MLAs are accountable to their constituents rather than the leader.
Speaking to The One News Poitras discusses what makes the Alberta Advantage platform more appealing to voters.
"The platform we've put forward is based on putting people back to work right away, investments in the energy industry have left the province, we all know that they've made it very clear they're not coming back until we show them that their investments are going to be profitable, but in the meantime we need to make sure that we put people back to work" says Poitras.
Poitras discusses how this riding can impact the rest of Alberta.
"If Leduc-Beaumont is booming, the rest of the province booms, and that's why it's important for us to help our energy programs, it's important that we improve our economy, all of it is connected, you can't say well I'm gonna do something for the environment,or something for the energy, all of our different programs or different platforms, they're all interconnected" says Poitras.
Poitras says his party's recall mandate means the power is in the hands of the people where it belongs.
He goes on to say maintaining services for this region in the short term is not enough.
"What we need to do is sit down and look at a 5-10-15-20 year plan, not just for Leduc-Beaumont but for the entire province, because once we get the energy program up and running again, once we get those pipelines in, once we get those things going, Beaumont and Leduc will be right in the middle of it once again, but the entire province will be benefitting from it, you need to plan long term" he says.
